The Leviathan Chronicles: The Last Stand At Aeprion By: James Mascia **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality in Fiction

*Disclaimer* I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions in return for a fair and honest review.

Joel and Kate are on a journey of a lifetime. They are aboard a spaceship looking for the planet named Aeprion. During their journey they discovered a large, very large, boulder that had a secret map written on it, but it had to be decoded, per say. They weren’t the only ones looking for this planet, an Alien called Kraxem. He automatically made enemies out of anyone that stood in his way and stopped at nothing to eliminate his enemies. Would he be successful in this? Would Joel and Kate be able to meet their goal?

I will be completely honest, I did not think I was going to like this book, but it sounded interesting so I wanted to give it a try. I am SO glad that I read it. It was a short and a fast read, but a fun read. I was afraid it would be hard to understand as it might have too much “scientific” lingo which it didn’t. It had an easy to follow story line and a fun read. There was some great action scenes and put you on the edge of your seat to see what was going to happen next.  The author did a great job with his descriptions of the people, the aliens, the spaceships, and the scenery. It made it feel like it was a journey you could walk out your door and embark on.
I would recommend this book to you, whether you are a huge science fiction fan or not.  If you are on the fence, I think you will be surprised at the story line he created with the characters. This book has made me actually want to branch out my reading a little bit more than my normal reads and I will be checking out some more of this authors works!

The Nines (Book 1) By: Dakota Madison & Sierra Avalon **Review By Amy

And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality in Fiction!

I received a copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review.

Roxie has a dark secret that she carries with her every day since she left Massachusetts. Her High School was bombed on the first day of school by the “Back to School Bomber” where many were killed and even more were hurt. That bomber was her brother. Since that very day, her life changed and people treated her like she was a criminal too. She left town and changed her name to start her life over but gave up the life of having boyfriends or good friends she could ever trust the secret with. Is there possibly one person that is connected with her past that can look past all the ugly and see the beautiful in her?
Alexander had it all, the looks, the girlfriend, high school quarterback, and the popularity. That all changed on the first day of school as his entire left side of his body was burned so badly that every single person in his life looked at him with horror. He was angry and wanted revenge, understandably so. Little did he know that his revenge would not be served on the bomber that did that to his life but on countless others committing criminal acts. He would get his revenge and vengeance would be served under “The Nines.”
I was reserved about reading this book after the first couple of chapters. The story really tore at my heart strings and brought waves of different emotions. It brought up memories of the countless horrible acts that have been committed against innocent people and have taken way too many innocent lives. To name a few of those acts; Columbine, The Boston Marathon Bombing, Sandy Hook, plus many, many more acts of incredible violence. This story touched me in more ways that I really ever expected it to and I almost stopped reading. I’m so glad that I didn’t stop even though it brought to my attention another bout of horrible crimes committed on college campuses every year; the secret fraternities that have rape rooms where horrible, horrible actions are committed against innocent victims.
While this book is a work of fiction, it was refreshing to think of a group such as “The nines” taking justice into their own hands when law enforcement has a cloud over their eyes. I was impressed by the way in which it was written. It was also very nice to read happiness and love to the story between Roxie and Alexander.  It has a way to leave you with hope to know that the world is not completely an ugly place; you just have to look for the silver lining. I was able to finish this book with a smile on my face and a feeling of happiness and a bit of peace for the characters. As this story is part of a series, I look forward to reading the others. These authors are incredible writers and write on such a touchy topic so beautifully. I would recommend reading this book, even though it touches on such sensitive subjects.

*Disclaimer* - I received this book from Xpresso Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.

Aimee had the ultimate crush on Miles until Nick crushed her hopes and dreams. In her free time with her best friend, she designed an elaborate blog with stories of her future life with Miles, the lead singer of Seconds To Juliet.  Once Nick dealt her the crushing blow of the truth of how Miles felt about her, she asked Becky to delete the blog completely and was on her way to forgetting Miles. Becky said she would delete the blog, but did she? How could Aimee spend two entire weeks traveling with STJ while her parents were overseas with Doctors without Borders until her grandma was free to babysit at home? She had a plan, she would just ignore Miles and keep away from the band. Would that plan really work?

This book was the ultimate fan girl book. It was fun, silly, serious, romantic, sad, and a happily ever after. I enjoyed the book very much. It was fun to hear the story of a girl who knew the lead singer of the band before they came to fame.  The way Nick treated his sister and the story he told Aimee was completely believable, brothers are protective and jerks like that sometimes. I couldn’t put this book down and thought the story line flowed very well. I think it definitely channeled a little fan girl in myself and took me back to my younger days. It’s always great to read a story that is able to channel those memories as a young adult!
This was my first introduction to this author, and boy am I glad! If you have some inner fan girl in yourself, whether it’s a band, singer, actor, actress, or author, you will enjoy this book!

Pleasured By You (Love in the City Book 3) By: Steph Nuss **Review by Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality in Fiction!

Bayler and Fletcher are a mess, in a good way. They are both very driven people and both like the fun, carefree, single lifestyle. That is, until New Years Eve where they are changed forever. Bayler doesn’t want to handle heartache or the motions of having a relationship. She has set rules for herself that she will not break, for anyone. Is it possible that one man has the capability of breaking her rules, breaking down the walls to her heart and loving her? She thinks not, especially not a play boy like Fletcher! He is a successful business owner, has a great body and personality, and rules the bedroom! Fletcher got Bayler to concede on her rule of no repeat nights of sex with the same person, but could he get her to concede to more, or give her heart away?
This story was incredible! I caught myself laughing out loud in multiple parts of the book and getting strange looks from others who had no idea the gem I was reading! Their story was fun, flirty, young, and full of a type of love that everyone wants and deserves! This book was a breath of fresh air after reading a few too many serious books. This book will leave you feeling refreshed, happy, and hopeful. Anything is possible in life and love and Bayler and Fletcher knocked that one out of the park I think.

I loved that there were really two different love stories going on in the book, Bayler and Fletcher as well as Rook and Vail! Not only was there two fun love stories going on, but I loved that Bayler and Fletcher were both members of Big Brothers / Big Sisters. What an incredible organization and it’s great that Steph included it into her story. I think both couples learned lessons from each other. In some scenes I got the feeling that the idea trying to be portrayed was that sometimes we as adults have to step back from our serious life and just let loose and have fun. No better way to do that then chaperone a teenagers dates and outings! What a great thing to feel as an adult living in a far too serious world! Way to go Steph!
There are so many things I loved about this book that I could write much, much more. However, I think you need to take my word that you need to dive into Bayler and Fletcher’s story. If you haven’t started the series at all, then start with Book One Fantasized By You and hit up Wanted By You next. You won’t regret it!

Private Encounters (The Private Serials Book #2) By: Anie Michaels *Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

**You must read book one, Private Affairs, before reading this book**

Lena and Preston have a relationship that they shouldn’t have. Preston is supposed to be Lena’s private investigator to find proof that he is cheating to get her out of her prenuptial agreement. Lena needs to be staying as far away from any other man sexually as possible so that she doesn’t lose everything and have to pay her husband $100,000.00. Preston makes Lena want to say yes in all the wrong ways, but are they really wrong? Can Lena survive if she gives in and gets caught?

Wow, another incredible book by Anie. Just a warning, she LOVES writing cliff hangers and boy does this book have a cliff hanger ending!  I just have to know what happens next. You might need a cold shower when you are done with this book because dang, let’s face it, Anie writes some incredibly hot sex scenes and this book has plenty of them. The turmoil that Lena is going through makes you want to keep reading, to find out if she will get what she is looking for. I couldn’t help but smile at different parts in the book, making me feel like these things could happen in real life, not just in a book. There were a few times when I was on the edge of my seat reading to find out just what was going to happen.  I was absolutely flabbergasted and heartbroken at the end of the book and pretty angry too.
You must read this series! If you think you hate serials and don’t want to give these a shot, I beg of you, let that idea go. Start with book one, Private Affairs, purchase this book, and wait for the third book, Private Getaway,  to be out then get ready to have your mind blown away! There is nothing to disappoint in these books. They are suspenseful, have hot sex scenes, and are fun to read. What more could you ask for?

A Witch’s Dream World By: Cheryllynn Dyess **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality in Fiction!

I received this book from Hot Tree Promotions in return for a fair and honest review.

Elizabeth was dealt one of the worst blows one can be dealt: her mom died. Upon her mom dying, she started having bizarre dreams that seemed almost lifelike. Once she started living with her aunts, life as she knew it, ceased to exist. She learned she possessed some incredibly strong powers and had very large shoes to fill. Could she do it?  Would she have to do it all alone or would she have help from others? Who would all come together to fight the council and what side should she chose?
Sire Wesley is a “prince” of the elves. Wesley is immediately attracted to Elizabeth. Wesley has the ability to transform into a Panther and further learns that his race is able to use telepathy. He teaches Elizabeth about his family’s history and knowledge that will aid Elizabeth in learning new abilities. Wesley’s mom does not agree with his relationship to Elizabeth. Is it possible that Elizabeth’s powers could be used in the future that would end up hurting Wesley?

I enjoyed this story very much; in fact, I read it in one day no problem. However, I found it lacking in a few areas. The story line was fun to read and kept me intrigued. In some spots, however, the story line seemed to be slightly slow or hard to understand. I enjoyed reading about the relationship with Elizabeth and Wesley, and even Elizabeth and Devlon. I think there was a rush to both stories and then kind of hit a plateau.  I did expect to have a little more action in the story line then there really was but it could be building up for the next book! I definitely think the author is on the right track for the possibility of creating a great next book depending upon how she chooses to spin the story, which I am interested to read.

The Griever’s Mark By: Katherine Hurley **Review By Amy

I received this book from YA Bound Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.

Astarti has had a rough childhood, to put it mild. She has been chained to Belos since she was seven and has done his bidding for him or received punishment for ten years.  Her mother cast her off as a baby and tried to kill her, failing, leaving Astarti with the Griver’s Mark. Her father is off enjoying life without her or maybe he is dead, she doesn’t know, and doesn’t care to know. She only knows the evil life of Belos but struggles to do his bidding.  Can she break away from Belos, knowing that she is leashed, and make a new life for herself?  Being sent to the physical world to convince Martel to join and leash himself to Belos might be the break she is looking for but is she strong enough?
Logan, a Warden and Earthmaker, is after Martel but little does he know that a Drifter, doing the bidding of the unnamed, is after Martel as well. Logan possesses more features than an Earthmaker, his eyes flash from blue, to green, then to brown with a gold edge. Earthmaker’s eyes are blue, so what more is there in Logan? Does he know the truth? Logan befriends Astarti against his families better judgment. Logan and Astarti’s target is the same, but why? Why would a Drifter injure herself trying to save him, an Earthmaker, who despise Drifters? He has much to learn but will his family and community accept her being present, without killing her?

The suspense and action in this book grabbed me from about the third chapter and kept my focus. I couldn’t stop reading and turning the pages to see what was next for Astarti and Logan in their journey. I had to know how Belos would react to Astarti’s betrayal to him and had to know how the Earthmakers would respond to having a Drifter in their presence. Their attraction and the possibility of love is absolutely forbidden, but why?  Are these rules justified or is there a past history with strong feelings keeping bigger and more important things from forming? I loved guessing what might be next and being wrong was a joyous moment! There has to be more to Astarti’s family than she knows but will she ever truly learn what that might be? I couldn’t put the book down, grasping at every detail, trying to piece them all together.
My only complaint was that the first few chapters failed to grab my attention. I’m incredibly happy that the book seemed to really pick up pace after about the third chapter or else I would have really missed out on a great book!  This is the only reason I bumped my rating down to a four as I would much rather prefer a book grab me from page one. I will definitely be picking up a copy of book two in this series that is due out in April. Go ahead and pick up your copy of The Griver’s Mark today, you won’t be disappointed!

Only For Us (Only Series Vol. 3) By Cristin Harber

(I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.)

She did it again. The third installment of Cristin Harber's new Only series, is just as amazing as the first two! Only For Us gives us just as much deep emotions and blinding surprises! Emma and Gray are deep with complex things eating at their chance of happiness. As I've said with the other two volumes, Emma and Gray are epic.
I cannot get enough of this couple! I am hooked and already bouncing in my seat for Only Forever, and Us hasn't even been released yet. It will be a long wait for me, but totally worth it. And I can always read the first one's for the third time. Right? ;)
Warnings in this book, basically the same as the other two. Still tons of deep emotions, explicit language and some graphic sex. However, this book features less violence. But, I'm sure we will be getting all of that we can handle in the next issue.

Ten Year Crush By: Toshia Slade **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle  - Escaping Reality In Fiction!

Gabby and Cam have been friends for as long as she can remember. He was best friends with her brother Josh and she had the gigantic school girl crush that never went away. She could not get him out of her mind, no matter who she was with. She thought maybe Brandon would be that guy who could give her everything she wanted and push Cam out of her life. She really didn’t want to just be friends with Cam and see him with other girls because she knew no one was ever going to be good enough. Could she swallow her pride so she could keep Cam in her life and just be his friend? Would she ever stop questioning herself about what if she and Cam could make it work? Would Josh allow his baby sister to be with his best friend?
Cam was a great looking, head turning, built young man. He has been turning heads for as long as he can remember but never the head of the girl he really wanted, Gabby.  She didn’t think about him like he did her, that she was more than just his friend, or did she? He had to know if he could make things work with her but was he strong enough to stand up to Josh and risk his relationship with him in case it didn’t work? Heaven knows sleeping with any available girl wasn’t keeping his mind off Gabby.  What if Gabby only wanted to be friends, could he make that work? He had to keep her safe and protect her but at what cost?

This book was absolutely, without a doubt in my mind, one of the best books I have read in a while. It has incredible detail, fun scenes, romance, angst, and suspense! I would never have guessed that this was Toshia’s first novel to be written and published so this definitely isn’t a “best book for her first novel” type of review! The story is written in a way that she makes you feel like you are in the story and are seeing and really experiencing the happiness and heartbreak Gabby is going through. My emotions were a rollercoaster during this book. Happy and excited for Gabby and Cam one moment and pissed off, angry, annoyed the next.
Toshia is working on book #2 in this series and hopes to have it out in June! You better bet I will be reading this next book! I definitely think that you should pick up your copy of Ten Year Crush and be ready to snuggle up with book #2, coming soon!

Hush Hush (Book #1) By Anneliese Vandell **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality In Fiction!

I received this book from the author in return for a fair and honest review.

Anna, also known as Sophia, has lived a life of secrets, lies, deception, and confusion. Her parents were sent to jail for life for being con men, in which they pled guilty to their charges. Anna is hell bent on revenge against the people who “conspired” against her parents and treated them so poorly once their crimes came to light. Does Anna fully understand just how many people that might include? There are details to her parent’s case that aren’t clear to Anna, which could either open up her revenge pool or shut it down. Did her parents really deserve what they received as punishment or did others have a hand in the sentence?
Liam Hawthorne is a bright young man who could have anything he wanted in life. He is from a very well to do family, has incredible looks, and a line of women that is never ending.  The only problem is that every single woman only wants to be with him because they want something from him; to use his name to get themself places, for money, or anything for their benefit. Once he meets Sophia, he thinks she might be different and be exactly what he is looking for, but is there more to her than meets the eye?  Liam has a dark side to him that no one knows about and he has done bad things in his life. What are those things he has done and will he let Sophia in?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Anna is set on revenging her parents for the sentence they received, but she doesn’t know exactly why they received such a harsh sentence or the details of the crime and the circle of people it encompasses. I enjoyed the suspense of the story trying to figure out what Anna has in store next to make her plan successful. The flirtatious relationship between Sophia and Liam was fun and exciting. I am intrigued to find out more information about Anna’s parents’ case and the parties that were involved in it and how they had a part to play in it.
I have one complaint about this book. I understand the blurb about this book references Fifty Shades of Grey meeting revenge but I do feel the sexual feel of the story follows too close to Fifty Shades of Grey story. The last chapter really has my mind doing flip flops regarding this story as to whether I will enjoy the rest of the series. This book seemed incredibly unique in its own way until the end.
To be fair to the story and the author I will recommend this book to you. It's a fun, intriguing read. Will this story keep its unique identity throughout the series? We will just have to wait and see

Worth the Wait By: Destiny Moon **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle - Escaping Reality In Fiction

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Monique has her life all together. She has a house, the corporate job with opportunities for advancement, great friends, and any man she could want, except for the one she really wants. She has the looks any woman would kill for and any man would chase after. Unfortunately, the man she wants to chase after her doesn’t seem to reciprocate those feelings, or does he? Does Monique really want to find the one, settle down, and have a family? She has spent much of her life playing the single game and having fun with the different suitors. It’s time to see just what pining after Jerome could offer her if only he would give her the time of day.
Jerome is a quiet, reserved, incredibly handsome and smart corporate executive, or is there more to him than meets the eye? His number one rule is to not become involved at work. He must go to work and earn a paycheck and then come home, no baggage, rumors, or drama. Simple, until Monique catches Jerome’s eye and makes him second guess his single simple rule. Should he risk everything to show his true feelings for Monique and does he risk whether or not she feels the same way? No work was going to get done until he could get his mind and eyes off her all day. Could he possibly give into his heart, just this once?
Jerome grasped my attention from the first mention of him. He was led to be quiet, reserved, and all business. However, once those layers to Jerome are peeled back one by one, it displays a completely different side of him. He is strong, loving, emotional, gracious, giving, responsible, feisty, demanding, and incredibly charming. He has a lifelong dream and doesn’t want to do anything that would alter his path to that dream, but can he take a short detour in the name of love?

This book definitely kept my attention from the beginning to the end. I didn’t want to put it down until I found out if it were possible for Jerome and Monique to work things out with one another. One of the last scenes in the book, specifically the one at the restaurant, was my favorite. The way things were happening, conversations were being had, and emotions were flowing, made me feel like I could insert myself into this story and be having the same conversation. It involved every day topics that we all eventually end up having. I felt, after being married for ten years, that the advice that Monique received was perfect and truthful.
My one complaint was Monique’s and Jerome’s story seems to progress a little fast for my liking to feel realistic. I found that to be a little “unbelievable” in real life. It is possible to happen as fast as it did, but not extremely likely. It’s possible the timetable was longer than it portrayed also, but there is no definite time frame referenced to know for sure. Had that party been a little more believable to me, this definitely could have been a five star rating.

If you’re looking for a sweet romance, with some incredibly steamy love scenes, then I would recommend this book to you.

Fathers House By: C. Edward Baldwin **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle - Escaping reality in Fiction!

I received an ARC in exchange for a nonbiased review.

Ben Lovison is at the peak of his life. He has a beautiful wife, is a well known and respected Assistant District Attorney, and has two twins on the way. Things are going great, until he reviews his most recent case and realizes he has something in common with the defendant, Fathers House. He doesn’t like to be connected to the defendants in anyway, in case someone tries to say he was giving away sweetheart deals because they had a connection. The twins were ready to make their grand entrance, 10 weeks early, all the while activity at Fathers House was about to be at an all time high.
Mayo Fathers is in charge of Fathers House, a place that accepts and helps adolescent boys in need of help, a new home, or a place to stay while their parents get their act together. He is also the owner of a very successful funeral home that services the city. Some of the boys also knew Mayo Fathers as Fathers Disciples, as well.
How does a city go from almost an all time high of criminal activity to an almost all time low, in just a few short years? A group of powerful criminals get the cops, city officials, judges, and District Attorneys in their back pocket.  This is easily done under the cover of a well known, and respected, business and individual, Mayo Fathers. He has opened up his home to take care of boys that have no place else to go. He teaches them and encourages them to become something better. What happens to those boys that just can’t conform to behaving and show signs of a current criminal lifestyle?

I enjoyed reading this book. The suspense written into the story had me on edge several times waiting to see what was up next for Ben Lovison or for Fathers House. I had a few theories throughout the story and at times it seemed as my theories were on track and other times I was left confused and frustrated.  As I kept reading more and more of the story unraveled.  This is a story you want to believe will never happen in your life or in someone else’s life. Parts of this story happen every day though, government officials being bribed. Some cops, judges, and district attorneys all accept bribes and closing a blind eye to the criminal action for their own gain.  The author does a great job adding a deep dark twist to the everyday story of corruption.  The end had me incredibly surprised. It wasn’t a theory or idea I had even thought of.
This story was intriguing and well written. It was dark, suspenseful, and full of action. If these are the types of things you like out of books, you will definitely enjoy the book!

Oasis of Eden By: Genella deGray **Review By Amy

Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
And Readers Isle- Escaping Reality in Fiction

I received this book from Totally Bound Book Publishing in return for a fair and honest review.

Jaden is a wealthy, spoiled, daughter of a well known gentleman who headed up archaeological digs. He was quite successful in his work and it provided a nice allowance for Jaden to use as she pleased. She preferred to spend as much of her time dancing at the rubs, drinking outlawed alcohol, and spending as much with the boys as she could get away with. Suddenly her pops’ dream was taking too much money from her fortune left to her upon the death of her father. This resulted in an unwanted trip to North Africa, specifically Egypt. Will this excursion change Jaden’s mindset about the digs her father so passionately enjoyed and the history of the people who lived those lives that were now being uncovered? Would there be anyone she encounters that could make Jaden want to change the way she lives her life? Would Jaden ever be able to give her heart away again?
Jaden’s lifestyle of drinking a little too much might have gotten the better of her. Where had she gone? Where was the dig? Where had the camp gone? Who was this Omari Elydian Amun? Her bossy and feisty personality isn’t getting her back to her camp and dig that she was so eager to shut down. How would she make it back to camp?  Could she get back to Dr. Harper to relay vital information or was it just too late?

Omari Elydian Amun was an incredibly large, well built man, but so was everyone in his camp. The area that they lived was described in such great detail it made me feel that I could walk out my door and be there. The Oasis of Eden was probably the best described place and made me want to pack up my things and make a journey there and it was probably my favorite part of the book. This was Elydian’s home, what a home to have! Elydian is a man of honor and a man of power. I loved the character he played out to be and how his soft side unfolded.
I enjoyed reading this book but felt it was a particular slow book for a good portion of the first half of the book. There were parts I really wanted to love and wanted it to grab me and keep me turning the page, but that didn’t really happen until the second half.  The second half had much more emotion, action, and the detail was written a little better. Also the words flowed easier during this time.
Jaden and Elydian are destined to meet and interact but will Jayden be strong enough to allow herself to give up control? Can she get over her spoiled girl ways and work to keep a society safe and running? Pick up a copy of Oasis of Eden and find out.
